This past weekend, Wolf Eyes hosted Trip Metal Fest in Detroit, which included shows at El Club in Mexicantown, discussions at Trinosophes, and film screenings at Third Man Records, Cinema Detroit, and Trinosophes, as well as an afterparty with Fit Sound and a noise brunch at the Jam Handy. I made it out to all three nights of performances at El Club as well as one of the discussions and two of the film screenings. It was also Movement (DEMF) weekend in downtown Detroit, and I got a media pass, but I only ended up going once, to see Honey Soundsystem (featuring my old college buddy Josh Cheon, who now runs the Dark Entries label). I also went to a discussion at MOCAD featuring Juan Atkins, Derrick May, and Kevin Saunderson, and I also visited Submerge (the Underground Resistance headquarters) and wandered around Detroit and took photos and stuff.
TMF was incredibly awesome, it was well organized, the sound and lighting were great, and most of the performances I caught were incredible. Hieroglyphic Being with Marshall Allen and Danny Ray Thompson of the Sun Ra Arkestra was probably the best set I’ve seen all year, and Morton Subotnick’s set was a once in a lifetime experience. Other favorites included Pod Blotz, Shades, Cotton Museum & Apetechnology, Panicsville (who did a magic show), Andrew WK performing a Bach piece with Twig Harper and Nate Young, etc.

Viands
Unfortunately I dropped my camera during Viands’ set and it broke, and I took phone pics for the rest of the weekend, but I bumped the resolution down by accident, so all the photos came out small, but here’s a few of them anyway:
I skipped day 2 of DEMF to see Downtown Boys in Ann Arbor (see previous post). I forgot my camera so these are phone photos. Whatever, I saw Squarepusher for free.
I got a media wristband this year so I’m getting in for free, which is great because they changed everything this year and the lines are absurdly long and it’s super expensive and it’s just not even worth paying for anymore. I’m never going to this again if I have to pay for it.
I took my new camera to DEMF this year and took a lot of photos. The battery ran out halfway through the first day, so I had to resort to a few phone photos until I could get home and recharge.
